EXPERIENCE

  • As Director of External Affairs for the Connecticut Office of the State Treasurer, Gabriela works across communities and institutions to strengthen public engagement, develop strategic partnerships, and make government more responsive and accessible.

  • Working as a legal assistant in immigration, family, civil, and personal-injury matters taught her to approach complex and sensitive issues with care, confidentiality, attention to detail, and form a strong understanding of legal and policy language.​

  • Her leadership development includes the Jordan-Huerta Fellowship at People For the American Way, The Campaign School at Yale, PLTI, and her current fellowship with the Latina Leadership Institute. 

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

  • Currently serving as Vice President of the Stamford Board of Education and Policy Committee Chair, where she partners with student leaders and advocates for public school funding reform.

  • Her community service includes supporting culturally responsive mental-health care, mentoring first-generation college students, and advancing restorative-justice opportunities for young people.

  • She is on the Board of Directors for The Center for Wellbeing - Centro Bienestar and the Stamford Parks Community Partnership. 

  • She was recognized for her community activism by local grassroots Latino organizations at the 2026 Mujeres Destacadas Awards for her advocacy on the Board of Education and in the immigrant community. 

PERSONAL

  • A product of public schools, first-generation college graduate, and proud immigrant, Gabriela understands the transformative power of education and the importance of strong family advocacy.

  • She and her husband moved to Stamford six years ago, attracted by Stamford's multilingual and multicultural community.

  • Gabriela earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Connecticut and completed a certification as a science teacher for grades 7-12.
